Unplug that Laptop
Unplug that laptop computer when you're not using it. Unplug the power cord from the electrical socket, not just from the computer. Ditto for any AC power supply (power cords with a block-like appendage). If that block gets warm, it's using electricity even if the device is not in use.
While you are at it, unplug the wall chargers for those cell phones, digital cameras and other electronic devices when they're not actually charging. They can draw up to 5 watts an hour each. Don't just take the device out of the charger, unplug it from the electrical outlet. If the block in the power cord is warm, it's drawing power.
