Another Visit to Silver Dollar City
My mom and I spent Tuesday at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. We went up this steep hill 2 or 3 times. The Southern Gospel Picnic continues through this weekend at Silver Dollar City, then the Festival of American Music and Crafts starts next week and continues through October.
First on our agenda was the "Frontier Follies" at the Silver Dollar City Saloon. The show is always a bit corny with recycled jokes, but how often do you get to see live can-can dancers? From the saloon, we went to the Opera House where The Lesters were starting their show.
Our next mission was lunch. There are a few vegetarian options. The Philly Cheesesteak stand has a veggie Philly Cheesesteak sandwich made with mushrooms. The Wagon Works Grill has a fresh vegetable wrap. You can eat Mary's Vegetable Delight at Big Jack's Sandwich Shop or spaghetti with marinara sauce at Mary's Springhouse Restaurant. A couple of years ago, spaghetti seemed to be the only option.
After lunch, we went to the train station but it was a long wait for the next train. Instead of waiting, we went in search of other entertainment. We caught the end of the Harigill Family show at the Boatworks Theater and moved on to the Dockside Theater to see the Cajun Connection with Cedric Benoit and Washboard Leo Thomas. I wrote about the Cajun Connection in my Silver Dollar City article last May.
We headed back to the train station and arrived just ahead of the train. The 20 minute steam train ride goes through the countryside and offers some old fashioned fun, hobos and a train robbery. We wrapped up with a visit to the candy shop to buy some salt water taffy and headed home tired, but relaxed.
Horrid traffic situation at the time. Our hotel was on the other side of town and we were poking along at a snails pace--I needed the facilities and soon. Finally I had had it---there was a service station, out I hoped, went in and did my business. The car had moved only two car lengths in the time it took for me to walk in, use the restroom and walk back out. SIGH
